The story
Two flasks share this page. The left one holds a rose-coloured liquid with thin bands of green and gold floating at its surface; the right one a flat, deep scarlet with nothing on top. They are drawn with the same long necks and stoppers as every other pair in the book, and the paper around them is left empty. Christian Wilhelm von Krohnemann signed Von der Universal Tinctur at Bayreuth in 1677 and died in 1686. Alchemical writers of his time treated red as the last colour of the work, the sign that it was done. This page shows the moment just before, when the last of the other colours still sits on the surface.
