The story
A page of separate parts, drawn in ink and grey wash: a bell-shaped hood, a tall open cylinder, a steep cone with two loop handles and a smaller cone below it, one with a short pipe coming off its side. Nothing is assembled. It reads like a parts list for the furnaces on the following leaves. The Wellcome describes its fifteenth-century Ymage de Vie as holding several full-page drawings of furnaces and apparatus besides the many small ones in its margins. This is the page where the scribe stops explaining and shows the hardware on its own, each piece set out with space around it so a coppersmith could copy it.
